Ground Preparation

  1. Ground preparation is a very important step once you have decided to lay turf

  2. Firstly you need to work the ground up with a rotary hoe or a bobcat.

  3. Next - spread some Dynamic Lifter, or any other organic matter you can find. If the soil is clay then you will also need to spread some GYPSUM to help the turf take hold. We recommend 50 kilo’s of each product to 100m2 areas.

  4. Now you can level the ground for the turf to be laid.

  • REMEMBER - well prepared ground will mean less water and less work to keep your turf healthy.

Maintenance

  • An initial soaking is needed for the turf to cling to the ground. TURF SHOULD BE WATERED WITHIN HALF AN HOUR. Start to water the turf as soon as it is laid and make sure the whole area is given a good soaking. The turf should then be kept moist for the first 2 weeks.
  • After this first 14 days the turf is ready for mowing. If you have Fescue turf it is essential that you mow at least 2 inches high.
  • You can mow without a catcher and let the build up of thatch act as mulch, but make sure that it is evenly spread, particularly in wet wether, to avoid yellow patches on your turf.
  • Maintain a healthy lawn by applying a fertilizer at regular      intervals.
  • You would need to fertilize at the beginning of summer – November/December, and also in February.  At other times of the year if the lawn is not responding to being watered, it is a good time to fertilize.
  • A good fertilizer is Pivot 900, or Starter 15 OR Multi-grow
    which contains about :
Nitrogen 15 Phosphorous 13 Sulphur 10 At a rate of 1 kilo per 100 square metres.

ALL FERTILIZER MUST  BE  WATERED IN  WELL.

If you think your turf needs to be greener, you would need to add extra Nitrogen.  Fertilize with Urea at a rate of 1 kilo per 100 square metres.
